FAQ Nutrition & Functional Medicine

Q: What kind of patients do you typically see for functional medicine?

We most often work with patients who have vague, persistent, or overlapping symptoms that haven’t been fully resolved through conventional care. This includes fatigue, hormonal shifts, gut issues, inflammatory conditions, and stress-related dysregulation — especially in perinatal or postpartum populations.

Q: Are you a primary care provider?

No — we are not licensed as primary care and do not provide acute care, medication management, or diagnostic testing beyond functional labs. We work alongside primary care, OBs, and specialists as a complementary resource.

Q: What types of labs do you use?

We use a combination of:

  • Functional bloodwork (run through traditional labs or specialty panels)
  • DUTCH testing (for hormone mapping)
  • GI-MAP (stool testing for microbiome, pathogens, digestion, inflammation)
  • Micronutrient & inflammation panels (as needed)

Patients may opt to run labs privately or through insurance-based labs when appropriate.

Q: Do you put patients on restrictive diets?

No. Our approach is weight-neutral and anti-diet. We focus on adding nutrient-dense foods, supporting stable blood sugar, and improving function without fear-based or restrictive nutrition guidance. We never recommend detoxes, cleanses, or extreme protocols.

Q: Can I expect communication about shared patients?

Yes. With patient consent, we are happy to send summaries, share lab results, and collaborate on co-management, especially in postpartum or hormone-sensitive cases. We believe clear, respectful communication leads to better care for everyone.
