Whatever your birth story looks like, one thing is true across the board: your body just did something remarkable. And now there’s a brand new, ridiculously cute little person in your life who needs everything from you, which is wonderful and all-consuming, but your own recovery can quietly fall through the cracks.
The postpartum period gets a fraction of the attention pregnancy does, and most new parents feel that gap acutely. You get a six-week checkup. Maybe a green light to resume normal activity. And then you’re largely on your own.
You deserve more than that.
The Fourth Trimester Is Real
Birth is not a finish line. The same hormones that loosened your ligaments during pregnancy don’t disappear overnight. Your pelvis, which shifted and widened over months, is now finding its way back. Your core and pelvic floor, which were under enormous load for the better part of a year, are rebuilding strength and figuring out how to work together again. And your spine and posture are adapting to a completely new physical reality: feeding, carrying, and soothing a newborn, often around the clock, often in positions that were definitely not designed with your body in mind.
All of this takes time. And all of it can feel a lot better with a little support.
What Postpartum Chiropractic Actually Looks Like
Just like any new patient visit at Pinetree, we start with a thorough exam and a real conversation. We want to know your full history, how your birth went, what you’re feeling in your body right now, and what you actually want to be able to do. From there we build a plan that’s specific to you, not a generic postpartum checklist pulled off a shelf.
Before anything else happens, we walk you through what we’re thinking and why. You’ll understand the purpose of each part of your care, have plenty of room to ask questions, and nothing moves forward until you’re fully on board. That’s true at the first visit and every visit after. Your comfort and your consent matter, every single time.
Some of the things we see and work with most often postpartum:
Low back and pelvic pain. The joints and ligaments that shifted during pregnancy don’t always settle smoothly on their own. Gentle manual therapy and targeted rehab can help that process along and take the edge off the discomfort that comes with it.
Rib and mid-back tension. Feeding a baby, whether by breast or bottle, involves a whole lot of hunching, curling, and holding very still in positions you would never choose on purpose. It adds up fast.
Neck and shoulder pain. See above, plus the many, many times a day you look down at that sweet little face. We get it. Completely worth it. Also really hard on your neck. We can help with that.
Core and pelvic floor rehab. Your abdominal muscles and pelvic floor went through an enormous amount, and rebuilding function there isn’t just about strength. It’s about coordination, load tolerance, and knowing what your body is actually ready for. Pelvic floor rehab is something we offer directly at Pinetree, and it’s often one of the most important parts of postpartum care.
SI joint dysfunction. The sacroiliac joint is one of the most common sites of postpartum pain, especially after more difficult deliveries or with the asymmetrical loading that comes from carrying and feeding. Very treatable. You don’t have to just live with it.
Don’t Wait Until Something Is Wrong
You don’t have to be in significant pain to come in. Postpartum chiropractic care isn’t about fixing what’s broken. It’s about supporting your body through one of the biggest physical transitions it will ever go through, so you can function well, recover fully, and get back to doing the things that matter without your body being the thing that holds you back.
The goal at Pinetree is always to help you need us less, not more. We want to give your body what it needs to move forward on its own and send you off with the tools and understanding to stay there.
When Can You Start?
There’s no need to wait. Chiropractic care is safe at any point during pregnancy or postpartum, and we know how to adapt to wherever you are in your recovery and whatever your birth looked like. If you need support, we can meet you there. We always start with a full exam and take things at whatever pace makes sense for your body.
If you had a cesarean birth, we work with that too. Recovery looks different and we adjust our approach accordingly, but chiropractic and other manual therapies can play a meaningful role in how well and how comfortably you recover from a cesarean.
We’re Here for the Whole Chapter
Pregnancy gets a lot of attention. The postpartum season, which is longer, harder, and more physically demanding than most people expect, often gets left behind. We’d like to change that, one visit at a time.
If you just had a baby, or if “just” was six months ago and you’re still not feeling quite right, we’d love to see you. Book online or give us a call. We’ll figure out together where to start.
